INT. HOTEL ROOM - NIGHT
Jenny is back on her bad, in the same position as the day
before.
JENNY
Our first day of alternative
investigation was a bit of a
disappointment. We however have
learned and we will use these
lessons to achieve more tomorrow.
Jenny shakes her head.
JENNY
Why are we even recording this?
We're not going to use this in the
final product anyway.
PHIL (O.S.)
See it as a diary, this way you'll
have a clear idea of the entire
process. Even though today could be
considered a failure we'll be able
to use it tomorrow.
JENNY
How?
PHIL (O.S.)
It would have been brilliant to get
Miley right away but we have to
work our way up. She isn't the only
Disney star out there, so we can go
after others as well.
JENNY
Not a bad idea. Who else is there?
PHIL (O.S.)
You know, people like Selena Gomez,
Demi Lovato, Emily Osment or
whoever works for Disney now. They
shouldn't have as many paparazzi
following them as Miley does.
JENNY
The "former and current employer"
angle, I like it. That might work.
PHIL (O.S.)
Might work, might not. We'll try.
Jenny gets up and gets into the bathroom.
JENNY
I know one thing, it can't be worse
than it was today.
Phil turns off the camera.
EXT. ROBERTSON BLVD - DAY
Jenny and Phil are back on Robertson Boulevard to give their
plan another try. They walk around looking for a target but
so far they're out of luck.
JENNY
Typical, the day you want to see
celebrities they're nowhere to be
found.
(pause)
Though hang on.
They see HILARY DUFF walking in the distance.
JENNY
Isn't that Hilary Duff?
PHIL (O.S.)
I think it is, she's heading for
her car though so we better hurry
up.
JENNY
A big SUV, perfect.
Hilary walks towards her car, Jenny manages to get to her
before she gets to her car.
JENNY
Hello Hilary; I'm Jenny Jenkins.
Hilary looks questioning at Jenny.
HILARY
Hello.
JENNY
May I ask you a couple of
questions?
HILARY
That's rather odd behavior for a
paparazzi.
JENNY
Oh, I'm not a paparazzi.
HILARY
You're following me with a camera
on a public street, so it sure
looks like one to me.
JENNY
No, I'm a film maker, I make
documentaries. Right now I'm making
one about global warming?
Hilary opens her car door and prepares to get in.
HILARY
So what do you want from me?
JENNY
You've worked quite a lot for
Disney in the past.
HILARY
(hesitant)
That's sort of obvious.
JENNY
How do you feel about their impact
on the environment?
HILARY
I don't know, you should probably
ask them as to what they do for the
environment.
JENNY
It's clear that they don't exactly
educate their employees on the
environment.
HILARY
What?
JENNY
How do you explain that gas
guzzling monster of a car you're
driving there.
Jenny points at Hilary's Mercedes G-class SUV.
HILARY
What? This is my car, Disney has
nothing to do with it. I'm leaving
now, this is just silly.
JENNY
So you're saying that they felt
they had no responsibility to teach
you the importance of conserving
power.
Hilary doesn't respond anymore, she shuts her door and just
drives away.
JENNY
That is an obvious example of
someone who's pretty much clueless.
This is the kind of person who
Disney uses to educate the younger
generation. Is this how all of
their proteges think?
Jenny's mood is now good, she releases a sigh of relief and
puts a big smile on her face.
JENNY
How was that?
PHIL (O.S.)
Not bad, though.....
JENNY
Though what?
PHIL (O.S.)
An argument could be made for that
car that it's a very old model
which has been continuously updated
throughout the years. No energy has
been wasted on developing a new
model so in that way it's actually
quite efficient.
As Phil speaks her smile slowly goes away and she looks
rather annoyed.
JENNY
You do know what we're trying to do
here, don't you?
PHIL (O.S.)
Yes.
JENNY
So shut up.
Jenny's cellphone rings, she picks it up.
JENNY
Hello? Yes.
(pause)
Really? Thank you very much, yes
I'll call later to set up a time.
She hangs up the phone and her smile returns.
JENNY
Good news.
PHIL (O.S.)
What?
JENNY
We got an interview with Emily
Osment.
PHIL (O.S.)
How did you manage to get an
interview with someone that heavily
involved with Disney?
JENNY
Someone owed me a favor; doesn't
hurt that they don't know who we
are either.
Phil points the camera at something else, he sees a crowd in
the background. Not as big a paparazzi crowd as they've seen
before but still quite a few people.
Jenny turns around.
JENNY
What's going on?
PHIL (O.S.)
I don't know, guess another
celebrity. Should we check out who
it is?
JENNY
Can't hurt.
They move in the direction of the crowd, they see that it's
LINDSAY LOHAN. Walking on the sidewalk smoking a cigarette.
Jenny actually manages to get next to her.
JENNY
Lindsay, do you have any idea how
bad smoking is?
LINDSAY
(laughing)
I can read the warning on the pack.
JENNY
Oh you misunderstood me; do you
realize how much CO2 and toxic
gasses you blow into the atmosphere
that way?
LINDSAY
What?
JENNY
At a pack a day over a period of
years that's a lot of substances
that can hurt the environment.
LINDSAY
Are you kidding me?
JENNY
What did Disney say about it when
you worked for them, didn't they
care?
LINDSAY
Get away from me.
JENNY
Or all those expensive gas guzzling
cars you've driven in the past.
Don't you think that you as a role
model should be showing the world
better?
Lindsay doesn't even respond anymore, she just tries to get
away from Jenny.
JENNY
Don't you think that companies like
Disney should guide their stars and
teach them to maintain a certain
public image?
Lindsay isn't moved, she just continues on her way and
doesn't acknowledge Jenny anymore.
JENNY
Come on Lindsay, you don't work for
Disney anymore. You can tell us
that they only care about money.
Lindsay flees into a store, the paparazzi crowd the
storefront but they don't go inside.
JENNY
Yet another former Disney star who
seems to have no idea about how the
environment can be damaged by their
behavior. They can't possibly be so
clueless about the environment, can
they?
PHIL (O.S.)
Alright, two successes in one day,
not bad.
JENNY
That and we arranged an interview
with Emily Osment. I've got a real
adrenaline buzz now.
PHIL (O.S.)
Guess we're not as bad at this
paparazzi thing than we thought.
JENNY
We have enough for today, lets get
back to the hotel.
Phil puts down the camera and turns it off.
INT. HOTEL ROOM - NIGHT
Jenny is on her bed again but now she's in a far better mood,
her disappointment from the previous days has turned into
excitement about the day's successes.
JENNY
We're finally making progress in
our efforts. Both Hilary Duff and
Lindsay Lohan have shown that
they´re clueless.
She holds up a pair of magazines with Hilary and Lindsay on
the covers.
JENNY
They don't work for Disney anymore
yet they manage to keep their
loyalty, how do they do it?
Tomorrow we're talking to Emily
Osment, did they manage to
transform her into a Disney puppet?
She moves a little closer to the camera.
JENNY
These Disney stars could try and
teach the world; how things could
be done better yet they don't.
She goes silent but still looks at the camera.
JENNY
Is there something wrong Phil? Or
what's up with that face.
PHIL (O.S.)
I'm sort of starting to feel bad.
JENNY
About what?
PHIL (O.S.)
You know, we're making people like
Hilary and Lindsay out to be bad
people.
JENNY
So you don't think they have a role
model function?
PHIL (O.S.)
That's not the point. It's not like
there aren't millions upon millions
of other people who behave any
better than they do.
JENNY
Those millions of people aren't in
the public eye.
PHIL (O.S.)
Still doesn't feel right.
JENNY
Sort of their own fault really; if
they didn't want a scandal once in
a while they shouldn't have become
famous.
PHIL (O.S.)
(sighing)
Whatever you say.
Phil turns off the camera.
EXT. HOTEL GARDEN - DAY
Jenny is patiently waiting in the garden of a hotel with all
the green as a background.
EMILY OSMENT comes walking through the garden.
PHIL (O.S.)
She has no one with her?
JENNY
I guess not.
PHIL (O.S.)
Who does she think she's meeting
anyway?
JENNY
She thinks we're doing a story on
young Disney stars.
Jenny gets up and reaches out her hand to welcome Emily.
JENNY
Hi Emily; I'm Jenny, nice to meet
you.
EMILY
Nice to meet you too.
JENNY
Can I offer you something to drink?
EMILY
No thanks, I'm fine.
JENNY
Isn't there anyone with you?
EMILY
Normally there would be but my
publicist couldn't make it. Doesn't
matter anyway, this isn't going to
be a tell all interview, is it?
Emily starts to laugh, Jenny hesitates for a moment.
JENNY
Of course not; you've probably done
a million of these already anyway.
EMILY
It's getting pretty close. So how
do you want to do this?
JENNY
Nothing special, we'll just see how
it goes. I was going for a more
spontaneous interview.
EMILY
Alright sounds interesting, lets
go.
JENNY
Welcome again Emily and thank you
for meeting us.
EMILY
Happy to be here.
JENNY
As you know the environment and
it's problems is a popular theme in
the press at the moment, does it
concern you?
EMILY
I would think that it concerns
everyone these days, it's a hard
issue to avoid.
JENNY
How does that show in your daily
life?
EMILY
I do the standard recycling thing
as it can't hurt. It's just a case
of being careful about what you buy
I would say.
JENNY
What do you think about some
celebrities being hypocritical
about the environment?
EMILY
What do you mean?
JENNY
Lets just take your co-star and
friend Miley Cyrus for example. She
drives a Prius on a daily bases,
right?
EMILY
(hesitant)
Yes...
JENNY
How do you justify her driving a
Prius the one day but taking a
private jet the next day? Shouldn't
she be setting an example?
EMILY
Have you ever tried being Miley
Cyrus? How would you think that she
can safely take a commercial
flight?
JENNY
So you would say that her travel
convenience is more important than
the environmental concerns.
EMILY
No, I'm saying that her safety is
more important. Have you ever met
Miley?
JENNY
Only briefly.
EMILY
You won't be able to find anyone in
this town who's pre-occupied with
the environment than her.
Emily's phone rings, she checks who it is and picks it up.
EMILY
Hello?
(Emily pauses to listen)
Yes, why?
As Emily listens further she takes a glance at Jenny and
hangs up the phone, she gets up to leave.
JENNY
What?
EMILY
I think I'd better leave.
JENNY
What? Why?
EMILY
Because I just heard what you've
been trying to do.
JENNY
What would that be?
EMILY
You know very well what. I'm
leaving.
Emily starts to leave.
JENNY
Disney is shutting you up because
they don't like what we have to
say?
EMILY
No, they're telling me to leave so
I don't get blind sided by you.
Jenny looks back into the camera after staring after Emily.
JENNY
There you have it again; Disney is
silencing their stars to avoid an
important topic like this.
PHIL (O.S.)
I'm honestly starting to think that
you'll have to pay someone to get a
quote you want.
JENNY
Nonsense, we already have plenty of
stuff. It just takes the right
voice over and interpretation.
PHIL (O.S.)
Isn't it kind of a stupid idea to
focus on Miley who is publicly
vocal about the environment?
JENNY
People love hypocrites, we'll just
make them think she is one. People
will eat that stuff up.
PHIL (O.S.)
There goes our moral high ground.
JENNY
Oh shut up, you want us to keep our
jobs, don't you? Lets just record a
new audio for one of the questions.
The one where Emily says You know
very well what.
PHIL (O.S.)
(sighing)
So you're changing the question so
it suits your purpose more.
Jenny gives him an annoyed look.
PHIL (O.S.)
Fine, go.
JENNY
What will Disney do if you keep
talking to us?
(pause)
There, that should be a better
question for that answer.
Phil just turns off the camera, he doesn't even say anything
anymore.
EXT. ROBERTSON BLVD - DAY
Jenny is walking on Robertson Boulevard again, on the look
out.
JENNY
Here we are back on Robertson
Boulevard. Even though Disney is
clearly trying to sabotage our
efforts we're not giving up.
They stroll along the street in the hope of finding
something.
PHIL (O.S.)
You know, it's likely that we'll
only run into people who are
useless to us.
JENNY
We can only try, we still need more
stuff. I think I see something
already actually.
They see a couple of paparazzi, not a big crowd. They're
looking into a store. Jenny speaks to a paparazzi.
JENNY
Who's inside.
PAPARAZZI
SELENA GOMEZ and DEMI LOVATO.
Jenny looks into the camera.
JENNY
It's our lucky day; two of the
biggest Disney stars together.
Demi and Selena come out of the store, the handful of
paparazzi taking pictures of them.
JENNY
Demi, Selena, can I ask you some
questions?
DEMI
Since when do paparazzi ask for
permission to ask questions? They
usually just do.
JENNY
I'm not a lowlife paparazzi. I'm an
actual journalists.
PAPARAZZI
Excuse me? You're sure acting like
any other lowlife paparazzi.
SELENA
Never thought I would agree with a
paparazzi.
DEMI
Stranger things have happened.
Selena looks up into the sky.
SELENA
Oh well.
DEMI
What is it?
SELENA
I thought I might see pigs fly but
sadly no.
Jenny knows she doesn't have a good position to ask questions
so she just gets on with it.
JENNY
Why does Disney fail in educating
people like you? Why do they want
people to waste energy?
Demi and Selena look at each other.
DEMI
Is she serious?
SELENA
I think she thinks she is serious,
too bad that the result isn't.
One of the paparazzi stands in Jenny's way, stopping her as
Demi and Selena slowly get away.
PAPARAZZI
Are you kidding me? What on earth
are you on? You're the same chick
who asked Lindsay all those
nonsense questions, aren't you?
JENNY
I wouldn't call them nonsense, I
don't see how they interfere with
your work either.
PAPARAZZI
Just get out of here and don't show
your face again, this is our
territory.
The paparazzi goes to join his colleagues, leaving behind
Jenny and Phil.
PHIL (O.S.)
So much for our paparazzi efforts.
JENNY
We'll find a way. Now lets just
quickly shoot.
PHIL (O.S.)
Go.
JENNY
It seems that even the paparazzi
are in on it. They're now the ones
trying to stop us questioning
people like Demi and Selena. It
seems like all of Hollywood is
trying to keep quiet about this.
She's done with talking, Phil puts down his camera but
doesn't turn it off right away.
PHIL (O.S.)
This is just getting ridiculous.
Why did I even go along with this?
He turns off the camera.
