FADE IN
EXT. HOLLYWOOD - DAY
Jenny is in her normal street clothes now and she walks
through the countryside. Where she is cannot be seen at
that time.
JENNY
Climate change is a popular
subject in the media these days.
It might seem easy to just blame
things like climate change on a
small group of people. Most
people will say "aren't we all to
blame for it"?
She continues to walk while people hiking come across her
path.
JENNY
There might be some truth to that
but people will always look to
other people and companies to set
an example.
As she walks by a bush she picks a flower from it and plays
with it.
JENNY
There is a one place in this
world where more people look for
guidance than anywhere else.
She pauses for a second as she continues to walk.
JENNY
So what is this place? You'd
think it's a place which is the
centre of environmental studies
or a place where the greatest
minds of our society reside.
You're wrong.
Jenny stops to walk, she stops in front of a white
structure. As the view widens the Hollywood sign is
revealed.
JENNY
Welcome to Hollywood!
EXT. HOLLYWOOD BLVD. - DAY
Jenny walks across the busy Hollywood boulevard, people go
about their day. Shopping, talking on their cell phones,
all sorts of things.
JENNY
The people who work here are
idolized, people take their words
as law.
As she speaks big SUV's, expensive sports cars and limos
drive by.
JENNY
Yet there is no place where you
will find this many wasteful
cars. This town is all about
image; it's about showing off
wealth. The environment sometimes
loses in that.
She walks by expensive boutiques with all sorts of
overpriced merchandise.
JENNY
We're going to try and show you
where the core of the problem
lies. Why don't the people here
care about what message they are
sending to the world? Especially
the younger generation looks to
their favorite celebrities for
guidance. More than anything they
look at Disney and their stars.
She turns towards the street where a hybrid car is parked.
JENNY
It might seem like the stars of
Hollywood are doing their best to
save the environment. They drive
their hybrid cars but I and my
camera man Phil....
PHIL turns around the camera pointing it at himself. He's a
rather young fellow with spiky hair.
PHIL
Hello.
JENNY
.... Are here to reveal the truth.
EXT. PIXAR STUDIOS - DAY
Jenny walks towards the gates of Pixar.
JENNY
Pixar is a household by now, with
their computer animated movies they
changed the world of animation. One
of the things their movies try to
show how vulnerable our planet is.
Is this really their agenda or is
there more behind it? Do they
really care about the environment?
She gets to the entry gate.
JENNY
We've managed to arrange an
interview with John Lasseter, the
head of both Pixar and Walt
Disney Animation.
They reach the entry gate, they go to the security guard.
JENNY
We have an appointment with JOHN
Lasseter; I'm Jenny Jenkins.
The security guard looks on a list.
SECURITY GUARD
Turn off your camera until you're
inside, please.
Jenny gestures to Phil that he can turn off the camera. He
first lowers it then turns it off.
INT. PIXAR STUDIOS - DAY
Jenny sits on a couch inside of the studio complex, they're
waiting for John Lasseter to arrive.
JENNY
Right, Phil; you know the
approach. We'll just start off
and see where it goes.
PHIL (O.S.)
As always.
A publicity woman walks in, shortly followed by John
Lasseter.
PUBLICITY WOMAN
May I introduce John Lasseter.
Jenny gets up and shakes John's hand in greeting.
JENNY
Jenny Jenkins, pleasure to meet
you.
JOHN LASSETER
Pleasure to meet you as well.
They both sit down on the couch, Jenny on one end, John on
the other. The publicity woman stays in the room in the
background.
PUBLICITY WOMAN
I assume you're familiar with
generally accepted interview
etiquette?
JENNY
Of course, we just wanted to keep
it casual.
JOHN LASSETER
Fine with me.
PUBLICITY WOMAN
Alright, go ahead.
Jenny signals the camera man and sound guy to be ready to
record.
JENNY
John, I want to start off with
saying that I'm a big fan of your
work. Your movies are just
amazing.
JOHN LASSETER
Well thank you. I'm happy to hear
that.
JENNY
You must hear that quite a lot.
JOHN LASSETER
Well yes but in principle we just
want to make a good movie so it's
good that other people love them
as well.
JENNY
I have to say that Finding Nemo
is my personal favorite Pixar
movie, I would say even one of my
all time favorite movies.
JOHN LASSETER
I'm pretty happy with all the
movies we've made in the past.
JENNY
And rightfully so.
Jenny shifts around slightly on the couch.
JENNY
One of the most impressive things
about Finding Nemo of course is
the Great Barrier Reef. A true
marvel in CGI.
JOHN LASSETER
It's a good looking thing; I'll
give you that.
JENNY
It makes you realize how
vulnerable our planet is. Was
that something you tried to show
in the movie?
JOHN LASSETER
Amongst other things. Making a
film of course isn't just about
entertaining people, if you can
give a message to a movie it's
always a bonus. It's also
something we tried to show in
Wall*E of course.
JENNY
That's true, also a brilliant
movie I have to say.
(pause)
Would you say that it's a message
Pixar and maybe even Disney in
general is trying to send; that
people have to take care of the
earth?
JOHN LASSETER
In a way you could say that.
JENNY
If you find it so important to
send a message of protecting our
planet. Why are you trying to
destroy it?
John shifts on the couch in amazement as he has no idea
what Jenny is referring to.
JOHN LASSETER
Excuse me?
JENNY
Why are you pretending to care
about the environment while you
yourself are damaging it?
JOHN LASSETER
What in the world are you talking
about?
The publicity woman steps in.
PUBLICITY WOMAN
Where are you going with this
line of questioning?
JENNY
I just want to establish the
environment impact of Pixar.
The publicity woman looks questioning at John.
JOHN LASSETER
How am I damaging the earth?
JENNY
You're enormous render farms, you
have countless computers working
for hours to just computer a single
frame. You can't deny the
environmental impact of that.
John pauses for just a second to think.
JOHN LASSETER
I will not deny that we use quite
a lot of power but we're trying
to be as environmentally friendly
about it as we can.
JENNY
It's always better to use less
power.
You would be using far less power
if you were animating your movies
by hand.
JOHN LASSETER
We're a computer animation
studio. We wouldn't have been
able to make an animated like the
Great Barrier Reef with
conventional animation. Also I
wonder how you think you know our
power conversation methods so
well.
JENNY
Have you tried animating it by
hand?
JOHN LASSETER
Why should we have tried? We're
Pixar, we only do computer
animation.
JENNY
So lets just make this movie and
screw the environment?
JOHN LASSETER
What? Now look here miss....
Before John can finish the publicity woman steps in.
PUBLICITY WOMAN
This interview is over.
John gets up and heads out the door; shortly followed by
the publicity woman.
JENNY
We were promised half an hour.
PUBLICITY WOMAN
You should have considered what
kind of questions a bit more
careful then. Security will be
here in a minute to escort you
out.
They have left the room, Jenny gets up from the couch and
looks at the cameraman.
JENNY
We didn't get as much as I had
hoped. Was hoping for a couple
more statements.
PHIL (O.S.)
We'll make something out of it in
editing. It's not like we're done
here yet anyway.
JENNY
We sort of are, John is gone now.
PHIL (O.S.)
We'll just get some scandal
footage when the security guards
throw us out. Resistance isn't
always futile.
The security guards come in and Phil does as he is
instructed, he keeps filming.
SECURITY GUARD
Please, turn off the camera.
PHIL (O.S.)
It is off.
SECURITY GUARD
Sir, please turn the camera off,
the recording light is on.
PHIL (O.S.)
Dang, is that thing broken again?
SECURITY GUARD
The light isn't broken, you're
still filming. So please turn the
camera off now.
PHIL (O.S.)
Make me.
SECURITY GUARD
Please Sir, you know very well
that you're not allowed to film
here unless we allow it.
PHIL (O.S.)
Maybe I do, maybe I don't.
The security guard steps forward and pushes the lens down.
PHIL (O.S.)
Don't touch the merchandise.
The security guard manages to get the camera off,
everything goes black.
EXT. PIXAR STUDIOS - DAY
They are outside of the studio again after being thrown
out, they are filming again.
JENNY
So you know the drill, we're just
shooting some extra footage for
dramatic effect.
PHIL (O.S.)
Go right ahead.
Jenny takes a deep breath before speaking, even though
she's calm she's trying to sound excited.
JENNY
So here we are outside of Pixar
again after being thrown out quite
roughly. Even after we were willing
to leave. In fact, the bruises are
already developing.
Jenny pulls up her sleeve.
JENNY
John Lasseter clearly didn't like
being confronted with what he's
doing. What does he have to hide?
She finishes speaking and looks at the camera.
JENNY
How was that?
PHIL (O.S.)
We can do something with that.
Though how did you do that with the
bruise?
JENNY
(looks at her bruise)
That thing?
(she pulls her sleeve back
down)
I'd rather not talk about, a rather
embarrassing luggage accident.
PHIL (O.S.)
Got plenty of footage of being
escorted out, with some nice voice
overs that's going to work great.
Camera off.
The image goes dark.
EXT. WALT DISNEY HEADQUARTERS - DAY
Jenny is in front of the Walt Disney headquarters.
JENNY
Our next appointment is with Bob
Iger; the CEO of the Walt Disney
company.
She moves towards the entrance as she gets to the security
guard at the entrance.
JENNY
Will he react differently than John
Lasseter?
INT. WALT DISNEY HEADQUARTERS - DAY
SECURITY GUARD
Can I help you?
JENNY
Yes, we have an appointment with
your CEO, Bob Iger.
SECURITY GUARD
Name please.
JENNY
Jenny Jenkins.
The security guard checks his list, looks up at Jenny and
makes a phone call. Jenny and Phil wait patiently.
PHIL (O.S.)
What are we waiting for?
JENNY
No idea, probably someone to get
us. Oh hang on, I think someone is
coming out.
A man comes walking out to meet Jenny.
DISNEY PUBLICIST
Hello, I'm a publicist for Disney.
So you're here to interview Mr.
Iger?
JENNY
That is correct.
DISNEY PUBLICIST
Due to your behavior at Pixar, Mr.
Iger has chosen to cancel your
interview. Please leave the
premises.
JENNY
We were trying to conduct a normal
interview, that Mr. Lasseter didn't
like the questions isn't my fault.
The publicist just walks away, not giving Jenny any response.
JENNY
So Mr. Iger is unwilling to discuss
the environmental policies of his
company with us? Is Disney really
that desperate to hide the truth?
SECURITY GUARD
You heard what the man said,
you['re not welcome here.
JENNY
Are you going to make us?
SECURITY GUARD
This is private property; if we
don't want you here, you have no
right to be here.
JENNY
We have a right to show the people
the truth; it's called freedom of
speech.
The security guard comes out together with two of his
colleagues.
JENNY
Fin, we'll leave.
SECURITY GUARD
Wise decision.
Jenny leaves, shortly followed by Phil and his camera. After
they exit Jenny looks at the camera.
EXT. WALT DISNEY HEADQUARTERS - DAY
JENNY
We were just thrown out of the
Disney headquarters, though we
acted on the side of caution this
time and left before being roughed
up and thrown out. Disney doesn't
like us asking questions.
Jenny lets out a heavy sigh.
JENNY
Well this sucks. I didn't expect
those Pixar idiots to call their
colleagues that quickly.
PHIL
We already got some good stuff,
don't worry. We'll get more
interviews.
JENNY
I guess we should have talked to
Iger first.
PHIL
It is what it is, we'll just make
some calls, we'll see how it goes.
Phil turns off the camera, the image goes black.
INT. HOTEL ROOM - NIGHT
Jenny is sitting on a bed in a hotel room, looking at the
camera.
JENNY
So here we are in a hotel in
Hollywood.
Jenny presents the room as something grand in a mocking
gesture.
JENNY
As a documentary maker it doesn't
come as a surprise that at times
you're being shut out. People don't
want to talk about things that may
put them in a bad light.
She slightly leans forward and looks straight into the
camera.
JENNY
We've even tried contacting other
studios and all sorts of people to
see if they would be willing to
talk to us. Disney however seems to
be blocking any attempt so we're
going to have to try something
else; we will reveal the truth
about Hollywood no matter what.
Now that she is done with her statement she lets down her
shoulders, like she's extremely disappointed.
PHIL (O.S.)
What is it?
JENNY
We have no where to go from here,
what do we do now? No one wants to
talk to us.
PHIL (O.S.)
How many people did you call
anyway?
JENNY
Not a lot; it's not like I have
that many contacts here. We were
lucky enough to get in with Disney.
The going green act only opens so
many doors, it's not exactly a new
approach.
PHIL (O.S.)
We just have to move on; we'll get
something sooner or later.
JENNY
I can't fail at this; I've pretty
much put everything on the line for
this.
PHIL
Don't worry, we'll manage.
JENNY
Why are you still recording anyway?
We've done all the recording we can
for now.
PHIL (O.S.)
I figured it can't hurt, recording
discussions and afterthoughts might
get us idea later on like in
editing.
JENNY
Well it better not make it onto the
DVD extras. If it did we would be
pretty screwed.
PHIL (O.S.)
Tell me about it.
JENNY
Hang on, I have an idea.
PHIL (O.S.)
What?
JENNY
Candid videos.
PHIL (O.S.)
Meaning?
JENNY
We'll just do as the paparazzi do.
We were planning on getting
interviews with some of them
anyway, so we'll just do it without
their prior consent.
PHIL (O.S.)
What kind of people?
JENNY
I was trying to get interviews with
Disney stars so they are the
obvious choice.
PHIL (O.S.)
I guess it could work. We'll just
have to be a bit lucky in who we
run into I guess.
JENNY
We've got to do something to make
this thing work so this is it.
Phil turns off the camera, everything goes black.
EXT. ROBERTSON BLVD - DAY
Jenny and Phil are on Robertson Boulevard, one of the
Hollywood hot spots hoping to find someone they can film.
JENNY
Just continuously film, we'll see
what we can get. What we won't use
we can just delete anyway.
PHIL (O.S.)
Will do.
JENNY
We'll just shoot a quick intro,
ready?
PHIL (O.S.)
Go.
JENNY
Here we are back in the middle of
Hollywood. Here we see how the
celebrities everyone admires go out
in public. Here we can show you how
they parade their wasteful life
style in public.
They just start to walk along Robertson Boulevard; people
pass them, expensive cars pass by. They fairly quickly see a
hoard of paparazzi outside of a store.
JENNY
That didn't take long, lets see who
it is.
They see MILEY CYRUS coming out of a store with her mother
and sister.
JENNY
It's Miley Cyrus, probably the
biggest Disney star at the moment.
The hoard of paparazzi goes after Miley, she stops for a
couple of fans who want autographs. She's barely given any
room to move by the paparazzi as they push and shove each
other.
JENNY
Miley! Miley!
Miley isn't moved by Jenny's screams as everyone is shouting
her name. She can't hear Jenny over any of the other
paparazzi or fans who are shouting her name.
It's a frenzy; people are trying to shout over each other
making it impossible to hear anyone. Jenny tries to push
through the crowd to get to Miley but she gets pushed aside,
she trips.
Miley sees that someone trips and turns towards her mother.
MILEY
People just keep falling for me.
One of the paparazzi turns around and looks at Jenny and as
Miley drives off in her Toyota Prius, as if he wanted to say
what kind of amateurs Jenny and Phil are. The paparazzi get
in their cars and go after Miley.
JENNY
Well this sucks, it was impossible
to get to her.
PHIL (O.S.)
It's Miley Cyrus after all.
JENNY
Doesn't mean we shouldn't be able
to get to her.
PHIL (O.S.)
She's the person with more
paparazzi after her than anyone
else. Good luck getting in there.
Jenny pauses a moment to think.
JENNY
I actually have an idea, roll a
short clip.
PHIL (O.S.)
Go ahead.
JENNY
We just saw Miley Cyrus get in her
car as she didn't give us any
comment. In fact mocked us as we
were roughly pushed aside by the
crowd following her.
Jenny takes a quick breath as she pretends to be out of
breath.
JENNY
Who is she fooling by driving a
hybrid car when she flies a private
jet the size of a commercial
airliner when traveling through
Europe?
PHIL (O.S.)
I would think that she isn't the
one who books those jets. Besides,
try traveling on a commercial
flight when you're Miley Cyrus.
Good luck doing that.
JENNY
I know that, doesn't mean that
people won't fall for it.
PHIL (O.S.)
Just checking what thing you were
going for.
JENNY
People love nothing more than a big
company and/or star being put down
a notch, that's what we're going
for.
Phil turns the camera off as everything goes black.
